No there is no "just the word-processing" part of OOo. In simple terms,
all the components (word-processor, spreadsheet, etc) rely on a large
core module, which forms the bulk of the download package. When you
install OOo you can select a "custom" install and elect to just install
the word-processor (Writer), but the space savings are minimal.

I am making the assumption that your question arises because you have a
dial-up Internet connection. If this is the case, I suggest that you
might ask a friend with a high speed connection to download OOo and burn
it to CD for you. Alternatively, you can get the current stable version
1.1.4 on CD at minimal cost, see:
http://distribution.openoffice.org/cdrom/
