Several hints:
1. Search on the filename you used when saving. Even if you only know
part of the name, the file finder should be able to find it.
2. Go to your typical document folders and sort by date.
3. Save another doc in OOo and look to see where the default folder
is. This is probably where your missing file is.
4. Try opening recent documents from within OOo.
