Let's assume that, when 2.0 comes out, it has all the features you want
and you decide to deploy it on your 1200 computers. Having done that,
why would you install patches or new versions? Probably, because there
is a feature that you want or there is a fix to a problem. Otherwise,
IGNORE the new versions, patches, etc. until enough factors have
accumulated that you decide to upgrade your whole operation.
When I periodically regress into the dark world of MSOffice, I often
work in Office 97 at home--sharing files with XP or Office 2000 or
whatever it is in the office. I find very few things that are not just
fine on 97.
One typically does not need the latest version of any SW product.

When OO version 2.0 does come out (fingers crossed - by the end of
July), will there be patches and updates released for it or are we
always going to have to uninstall the last version then install the
newest version???? The reason I ask is we are considering rolling out
the software to our company's approximately 1200 computers and as you
can imagine its a real pain to uninstall the current version and install
a new one very time there is a patch or update, for every computer in
the company. If the above is not the case, they should really consider
modifying things so that they can release patches and/or updates instead
of requiring complete reinstallations. This will make the OpenOffice
solution infeasible to any larger organization. Thank you,
Robert
