I have for a time tried to use openoffice, even if have payed for at version of microsoft office pro, but I keep running into problems. I now tried to takt a contact list from my palm, and I made a textfile vith tabs, an normaly in msoffice I would import og just open it in excell, but Openoffice acts as one program, and it will only open the txt file in writer, and in the sheet there is no import function, and if i paste it into a sheet, it lookes awfull. This is an example of functions, whitch is easey in msoffice, and I could make a long list, but I'm afraid I will have to go back to msoffice, even though I have praised openoffice to a lot of users ( I am a itconsultant in a public office with ca. 4oo users)

Try selecting your .txt file as a spreadsheet file. You can find this
option by scrolling through the File type list. Look for csv in the
description. Out-of-the-box OOo assumes that a .txt file is just that,
text and opens it it writer. The other way is to change the extension of
your file to .csv which will open directly into Calc.
