While this is a little of topic from the original poster's
question, there is a solution to what you want: it is called Page
styles. In fact, use the F11 key in OOo to access all of the styles
available for your use. In the window that opens up, there are icons
across the top. One of them is Page Styles. Among the default Page
Styles are the Left Page and Right Page styles.
It might be well worthwhile to read the documentation on how to use
styles found at
http://documentation.openoffice.org./mnauals/index.html.
Look in the User's Guide section.
