Samba lets you connect from a Linux box to Windows servers, shared
folders, etc. Not sure how it works with a Mac.
Regardless, you connect to the other computer, server, whatever, and
transfer your files. Then you can disconnect if you want. The main
thing is to open the file on your local machine.
