1) Can anybody explain to me what the difference is between a field
and a variable?

The help is very confusing and I couldn't find it mentioned at all in
the documentation.

2) What is the difference between a set [sic] variable and a "show variable"?

Variables are set, reset maybe, but "show"? This is all non-standard
terminology.

3) I need to define chapter-level fields to complete this document.
Can I? Can't I? If I can't, the document will come out looking like
the OO.o user guide, pure amateur.
