From OpenOffice, you have to save in a format (e.g. .doc) that MSOffice
understands. Same answer for any transfer between two programs---you
have to use a format that both can deal with. Someday, we may have some
more "universal" formats--as we now have in PDF, JPG, TIF, etc..
Open office 2, and hopefully all sucessive versions of word (at least
will plugin) will be using Oasis open document format. As is Koffice and
others. Oasis aims to be the defacto document type for all office
programs.
I have read a document from the Oasis site that Microsoft won't support
Oasis unless it is forced to. They are coming out with their own XML
version that they feel is better. It is funny that it looks similar to
StarOffice/OpenOffice format of the past.
Lets hope Oasis becomes an ISO standard and force the issue.
For those that want to edit documents, I will tell them that they can
download OOo and install it for free. I also tell them to contact
Microsoft about a filter to support OOo documents.
If they don't need to edit, I send PDF files.
I will send them MS formatted documents if I have to.
FWIW, there are scientists around here that are using OOo as they can
format documents easier than in MSOffice. Now if styles were as easy as
WordPerfect.
