I'm fairly new to a Mac and struggle with the limitations of appleworks. A friend recommended openoffice but the version I downloaded from the openoffice site seems to run only in panther. I have OS X v. 10.4.2. Is there an openoffice version available that will run on my machine?
I will say that you might be happier with NeoOffic/J if you are not used to getting a bit further into OS X. Open Office on the Mac requires the use of the X-11 windowing system. Apple has a version downloadable from their web site if you do not have it on your installation disks. You will need the version for Tiger, 10.4. Once X-11 is installed you can then install and use Open office on the Mac. I have used both OOo and NeoOffice/J and have both installed on both the 10.3 system at work and 10.4 system at home. File formats are the same and either can work with the files.
