Gentlemen,

I really like the Open Office Beta.

I do have a couple of questions.

Is there a "bullets and numbering" option in Writer to manually control the size and type of font for the numbers. My numbers don't always end up the same size as the adjacent text when I prepare a list. In Impress, when I copy text from Writer to Impress, the text size remains the same (as in Writer) and doesn't transfer to the size of the Impress template. Is this change pending or am I doing something wrong? In Impress, when creating a bullet item using a template, if I "tab" to the right (using the icon) the
bullet type does not change and the text size doesn't become slightly
smaller as in PowerPoint. Will this adaptation be made in the final
version or am I doing something wrong? Keep up the good work!

Numbering (as much of the formatting in OpenOffice.org) is controlled thru "Styles". There is a good document on Styles available from http://documentation.openoffice.org.

I don't see anything dealing specifically with Styles. Would it be possible to give a more specific reference please?

I guess it is a real stretch for some to think of looking under "User Guides."

Doug,

I was suggesting that: http://documentation.openoffice.org/manuals/oooauthors2/0113GS-WorkingWithStyles.pdf would have been a more helpful response. Even that doesn't appear to answer the specific questions Eddy asked.

That document is good as a HowTo. It doesn't give a good picture of the hierarchy of styles and of the inheritance rules, from a template or from local styles. Some sort of overview is needed to make it clear how direct formatting fits in with styles.

I knew exactly what you meant. Obviously, I was too obscure about making my point, which is that people who are so intellectually lazy that they cannot even drill down through a couple of web pages to try to find a bit of information are wasting everyone's time. Plus, there is always the possibility they might encounter something along the way they hadn't yet asked about. Of course, that entails having a mind open to discovery rather than behaving like a word search program.
