Feel free to ask questions - this is the right list for that.

So do you have a JAVA JRE (java runtime environment) installed? It
could be that you simply need to tell OOo where to find it.

I thought StarOffice was a Sun Microsystems product which uses JAVA,
but I kept getting a message stating a JAVA Run Time Environment could
not be found.

It still needs to be installed for it to be used.

1.1.4 is the latest stable version.

I see 1.1.5, beta 1.9+, and 2.0 Beta. Have any of these been updated
to iron out some of the compatibility bugs I've been experiencing?

1.1.5 was released to allow the stable version to read and write the
new formatted files (which are to be used in Version 2.0 of OOo). The
versions beginning with 1.9.X are the beta versions of Version 2.0 of
OOo. It is recommended that if you want production quality software
you stick with 1.1.4.

Are they currently available? I thought I saw where they weren't yet
available.

Various 1.9.X vesions are available. New ones are released every 2
weeks or so...

Will they work on my system?
Should do.
