Hello Users List:
I have isolated a group of wild files that seem to resent any tampering.
Usually I cannot even open them; but when I can, I know that making a
change to them is likely to cause a freeze up.
The package of files is about 24 pages, has several graphic/picture
objects, which have been collected under Writer 122. Curiously, the size
of a file occasionally changes as I attempt to open it, one example
ranging from about 1.9 mb at the beginning, to 2.8 mb later, although I
did not consciously add material.
After struggling with this chapter and its several lists of notes and
illustrations, I have isolated a group of 9 offending files at 13.9 mb
and tried to leave them alone. But they still contain unique information.
What I have done is break the several long files, mostly text, some
graphics, into individual page files and saved them in Writer 1.1.4 --
because it seemed less nervous about having graphics mixed into the litter.
Gradually, I reconstructed this collection from the individual swx saves
back into odt, pretty well reconstructing the original set, except for
graphics. It seems the graphics are either causing the problem, or they
are the symptoms responding to something else. Not sure, but it seems
that setting View > Display > Graphics and Objects to Off makes the lot
a bit more stable. I have the feeling that not all the files were
changed over to the same Off setting, but I don't know how this could be?
At least I can work with these reconstructions and the freezeups have
not returned -- yet.
Does any of this seem familiar to anyone?
I run XP SP2 Home; 42 gbt drive; 512 rimm; 1300 ghz chip.
Can I send any other info to get some help?
Thanks to anyone willing to read this long message, and respond.
