I ghost all machines with OpenOffice on it. When installing, there is no option to make it install for all users. I have to go to add/remove programs and run a quick repair for each user that logs in.

Hi Scott -

I posted about a very similar problem a day before you started this thread (Subject line: [users] file associations with OOo)

Your post helped me discovery what was going on. I, too, and an IT Coordinator for a school and am using imaging software to roll out a bunch of laptops for the teachers. (I'm using Acronis Image Writer, which I find to be much better than Ghost, btw).

You are correct in that it looks like the OpenOffice installation only "works" for the user you install it for - at least for file associations. I used a "test" account for the image that I created - computer administrator - installing all programs under than user and copying that profile over to Default user. When the new image was created, I would create a new account. Everything was picked up correctly, but the file associations were wrong.

I am going to try just renaming the test account for each user and see if that works.

You wrote about an add/remove programs quick repair to fix the file association problem. What is that? Are you talking about a complete reinstall of OOo?

Also, if you don't mind, please contact me off-list to discuss some school-related IT stuff.
