It is very possible that the spreadsheet contains one or more
protected cells. These are protected by a password.
OpenOffice.org (OOo) 2.0 will be able to open these Excel
spreadsheets, but 1.1.x versions do not. There is a Beta candidate
presently available that should be able to open these files. Just
remember that it is still in the testing phase. If you choose to use
the Beta version, make sure you make a copy of any file before opening
it with OOo's Beta version. It is not likely that OOo will cause any
problems with the files, but it is always better to be cautious than to
be sorry later.
