Background: (sorry it's so long)
I am in the process of migrating from a Windows environment to using
Linux and open software. I have been using OpenOffice.org for a little
while and am very impressed. Currently I am using version 1.9.122. I
also have 1.1.3 installed and have used it, although not as much. My
computer is an AOpen white box laptop with a Pentium M 745 (1.8GHz), ATI
Mobility Radeon 9700, and 1Gb ram. It came with Windows XP installed
which I used with MS Office 2003 until about 5 months ago. I was
dual-booting but have recently replaced my hard drive (due to hardware
failure) and decided that since I was using Linux almost exclusively I
would not bother to reinstall Windows. I am now using Ubuntu 5.04.

Actual need:
I often give presentations to groups of varying sizes and have used MS
PowerPoint to do so for years. I have found Ooo's Impress to be quite
good and am now migrating all of my presentations. However, I have hit a
snag with one particular presentation. It is an auto-advance
presentation with an embedded sound object that plays automatically from
the first slide and continues to the end of the presentation while the
slides are changing. I want to continue to use this presentation or at
least make a new one with the same ability.

My problem:
I have thus far been unsuccessful in embedding sound files in a slide in
Ooo (version 1.9.x as I've used several of the betas as well as 1.1.3).
I have found the proper method to do so to be quite easy
(Insert->Object->Sound and then point to the file I want). However, to
my dismay I have not yet found Ooo to be able to play any multimedia
format I have. I have tested mp3's, ogg's, wav's, as well as movie
formats such as mov's, mpeg's, mpg's and so on. If I go to Tools->Media
Player I have found it unable to play any multimedia files as well. I
know it is not a codec problem or multimedia incapability problem with
my system because I can use Xine, Totem, VLC, Rhythmbox and other
programs to play anything I like.

My question: (finally)
Is my problem simply because Ooo 2.0 is still in beta? Is this a feature
that is planned but just not yet implemented? Or is there something I
need to do to configure the suite to make my goal possible?

Thank you for reading my long question. I hope I have given you enough
info to help me out without being tedious. I appreciate the work Sun has
done on Ooo and am looking forward to continued productive use of your
software.
