I am in the process of becoming 100% Linux / Open Source. While it is
nice to get "free" SW, we need to recognize that nothing is really
free---we need to contribute where appropriate, and buy where appropriate.
There's a recent story about a Brazilian official who took some heat for
likening Microsoft to a drug dealer. He later apologized, but he was
right. Everytime I give in to time pressure and reach for a Windows box
to do something that I have not yet learned on Linux, I feel like an
addict going in for a fix.
I will not buy any more Microsoft products until they change their
ways---I will use what I have ONLY when I have no other choice.

versions are completed. Is this true?
Probably not... and even if so, the source code will be free and you
can bet that there'll be a huge number of techies who'll make sure
the latest OOo version is available for free. Anyway, it makes
little sense to charge money for OOo -- one of the biggest selling
points of OOo is the fact that it's free. Start charging for it, and
everyone will go back to MS Office.

You cannot say that everyone will go back to MS Office. For one, I
would rather pay for OOo than MSO - the former is a much better value
for your money, especially since the source is available, the document
formats open, etc.. Second, MSO does not run on any of the GNU/Linux
distros I run (I'm a Windows-less house/ministry). So, not *everyone*
will go back to MS Office. ;-)
