The oooauthors team have been working to redress this issue, for example
I am part of the team that has worked on the documents for migrating
from Microsoft Office to OpenOffice.org. The proof read documents are
available from:
http://documentation.openoffice.org/manuals/index.html

Versions for the beta which are still in draft form are available from:
http://oooauthors.org/en/authors/userguide2

The group always appreciates people providing feedback on how to make
instructions/information clearer.
