That is correct, OOo does NOT read Works files. What it does read is
Wordperfect files which have a similar extension. I believe this is where
the confusion has arisen. OOo reads RTF and DOC which I believe WOrks can
produce directly or with converter from

So in a way your wife is right but had you said Works files at the
beginning we could have told you about having to do some extra work.
