I guess I'm blind. I don't see installation instructions for installing beta2.
The readme documentation says that this version can be installed along side of
an earlier version and it lists the system requirements but it does not say
what to do with the unpacked tarball.

One of my sons gave me a file that he had obtained from someplace that includes
the command line instructions listed below which I'm not sure apply. I have
attempted to follow them In spite of my misgivings,

> 1. Unpack the downloaded image into a directory. For example, currently, the
> following command would unpack into the current directory:
> tar xvzf Ooo_1.9.m79_native_LinuxIntel_install.tar.gz
> 2. Su to root, if necessary.
> 3. cd into the directory with the unpacked image. This could be RPMS.
> 4. Delete any rpm files that do not apply to your system. For example, on a
> Fedora Core 3 system, delete any rpms specific to another distribution such
> as openofficeorg-suse-menus-1.9.79-1.noarch.rpm.
> 5.Then execute rpm -Uvih *rpm.

I performed steps 1 and 2 without any apparent difficulties. I found that
packages had been unpacked into two directories -- RPMS and RPMS/desktop-
integration. RPMS contains 26 packages and RPMS/desktop-integration contains
five packages -- one each for debian, freedesktop, mandriva, redhat, and suse.
I performed step 3 into directory RPMS but since it does not directly contain
any of the rpms that are specific to particular distributions I could not
perform step 4 and step 5 did not yield a version of OOo that I could find a
way to use. Here is the text displayed when I performed step 5:

rpm -q * tells me that none of this is installed. YaST shows a golden lock for
each of the component parts.

Please point me to the proper document(s) or tell me where I went wrong in
following the directions listed above.

In case anyone is wondering, here is why I care. My system is running SuSe 9.3
Linux which included version 1.9.79 of OOo. I attempted to create a database
with that version. OOo displayed an error window with the title, "JRE is
defective" and proceeded to report, "OpenOffice.org required a Java runtime
environment (JRE) to perform this task. The selected JRE is defective. Please
select another version or install a new JRE and select it under Tools - Options
- OpenOffice.org - Java." This was in spite of the fact that I had just
installed JRE 1.5 for another application that I am running, I figured that OOo
1.9.79 might not support JRE 1.5 so I went looking for a later version of OOo.
