Hello.
Is it legal to use Microsoft formats for such documents like DOC, XLS, ...
in OpenOffice.org?
Microsoft has been very pleased in the past with the widespread use of
his document formats. But this questions raises the concerns about
storing your own data (legal content, your property) in a propietary
format you cannot control. Tomorow Microsoft can patent any process (or
enforce an existing patent) and prohibit you to access your own files
unless paying a fee.
It is this very issue what makes the argument towards PUBLIC STANDARDS
really compelling. That's the reason behind the OASIS formats as
OpenDocument, the native format in OpenOffice.org 2.0
