If you could tell us the name of the software, we may be able to help
you more.

Just a guess, but it sounds like the Elec. Est. system is designed to
interface exclusively with MS Office via Windows OLE or DDE functions.
If this is the case, it may not be possible for OOo to interface in the
same way. While OOo is a terrific office program, it is not an MS Office
clone.

The following is from the OpenOffice.org Knowledge Base found at:
http://mindmeld.cybersite.com.au/

"#553 What is the definition of a macro?
Macros are scripts which do specified tasks in an application.
They are usually either written in some macro language, or
recorded from user actions (keystrokes, mouse actions etc.).
Their purpose is to make certain complicated and/or long tasks
        easier to perform."

In OOo macros are written in Star Basic and in MS Office they are
written in VBA.

If a document you open contains one or macros, a message is displayed
asking if you want to allow (enable) or prevent (disable) the macro(s)
running in that document.
