Two choises:
A - ask Bill Gate to support the international OpenDocument standard;
(And since ODG is a DRAW-document, it is more likely to open in Visio
than in Word.)
B - Download and install OpenOffice.org 2.0 (beta)

There is another possibility. If the sender of the file wil be so kind
to mail it to you as a PDF (File>Send>Document as PDF-attachment) you
will be able to see it in any PDF-reader.
