Thanks for the clarification and correction. 

BTW, I also had a mis-conception about this printer. I presumed it was
an obsolete derelict. This printer  is still in production and
buy-able today (~$650 list on the US Epson site) . Oh again.
Dot-matrix lives. (Now I'm waiting for an API question about
daisywheel printers...)
