Quoting from an earlier thread:

"This ended up as a FAQ item, http://tinyurl.com/7bnwt As to why it
happens, I have never heard. Under *NIX it is very rare whilst more
common under Windows. THis file is active so any bad sector, bad memory,
bad OS could cause it not to get written out correctly but this is only
a guess."

So, bad news, seems to happen enough in Windows to justify a FAQ entry
(and may pre-indicate a failing system, so be warned).

But, good news, there is a FAQ entry on fixing it. And it looks pretty
easy to fix (I haven't "gotten" to fix this for myself... yet).

Time to move up to version 1.1.5 isn't it? Then we won't snicker at
your antique version.
(BTW, from other emails, re-installation by itself doesn't fix it)

Good luck.
