1. Does OpenOffice read and open and permit revision to old WordPerfect files?? My husband is a pastor and he has a number of old WordPerfect documents stored on our computer. Our new computer only has Works and it does not appear to be able to handle these WP documents. I was told by a computer geek that OpenOffice will permit us to utilize those files. Please confirm and instruct as to how one should open and modify those documents.
I was in the same boat. Yes, Open Office 2 beta works well at opening WordPerfect Office. I have not had an issue with any of the old files I have opened. Note, Works files are "not" supported in Open Office so you would want to save them either in MS Word format or RTF format to open in Open Office.
2. If he is able to utilize those old WP files, will he be able to send them via attachment to an email to others who may only have MSWord or WordPerfect on their computers -- and will those people be able to read the document in the format in which it was intended?
OpenOffice 2 beta cannot save as WordPerfect documents, but if you just want them to be able to read the document, you can save as a pdf document and then they can use any pdf reader they wish. Of course they won't be able to edit the pdf files.
If you need the ability to send files that can be edited, then use MS Office formats with Open Office supports.
