You misread Jonathon's response in which he said:
"OOo supports Unicode Plane Zero.
It does _not_ support Unicode Plane one thru fifteen."
So that means that OOo does support Unicode but is limited to Plane
Zero, at least at this time. The NLC are hard at work improving this
situation.
So your Unicode fonts are very likely supported.
