Thanks Paul
However unchecking Capitalization doesn't pick-up accidentally
capitalized words and, with my typing skills, that can be a problem. I'm
not sure what massaging en masse entails but I do have all the names now
in a collection of dictionaries in OOo. I would hate to have to
apostrophize each name.

Hi
Having recently added proper names to the dictionaries in OOo 2 I now
find that any added name with an apostrophe s (eg Abram's) is signed as
unrecognized by writer. Is there a method for informing spellchecker to
accept names with apostrophe? It doesn't happen with names and words in
the normal (included) dictionaries.
NB I had to add all the names in both lower case and as capitalized
Initial letters. (2868 x 2 !!)

Can't help you on the possessive, but you can turn off checking
for capitalization in Spelling options.
Or, if you want to retain cap checking, you could massage the
list of word en masse before entering them into the dictionary.
