In OpenOffice.org Writer, it is the blue paint brush icon about half way
along the top row. If you type "paint format" in Help, "Copying
Formatting With the Format Paintbrush" will be listed to tell you all
about it.

My apologies, I am using Version 1.9.125 - I should have asked you what
version you are using. I am sorry that means I cannot help as I no
longer have Version 1.1.4. I hope others will help you. You should if
you can upgrade to Version 2.0 Release Candidate. I have been using
1.9.125 for some time with no problems.

Later: I found a copy of Version 1.1.1 on a backup from some time ago
and no, there is no format painter that I can find, so perhaps it is a
later addition.
