It took me a while, but I finally found out how to do envelopes in OOo.

Note, I'm using OOo 1.1.3, but I believe the method is the same for all
versions.

Go to Insert->Envelopes on the OOo menu.
This opens a panel with 3 tabs. The first tab is Envelope.

In this tab you put the addressee info and the sender info into separate
areas. If you're using a database there's a drop down menu to select the
database, one for the table, and another for the database field. I haven't
used this yet.

The 2nd tab is Format. My suggestion is to only select the type of envelope
in the bottom area, which should fill in the width and height of the
envelope. It will also show you where the data fields are going on the
envelope.

The 3rd and last tab is Printer. The top half of this panel will allow you to
tell it where the printer is accepting the envelope, and the orientation.
The bottom half of the panel will tell you what printer is selected and allow
you to change the printer and the printer properties.

You may need to experiment a little with this tab to get the correct way to
place the envelope in your printer.

When everything is set, click on New Doc. and you'll get an envelope looking
document and you can print away.

Hope this helps.
