I've tried to Install the stable version of Open Office on Windows XP system. At the
point where a runtime environment is to be assigned, I get the message that no Java
Runtime Environment was found, even though I have a "JavaHome" folder with all
sorts of other Java files in it. The operating system is set to show all files, so I know
that nothing is hidden.

Can a Java Runtime Environment be downloaded?

Why Wait? Move to EarthLink.

Sure can be:

<http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html>

The first packages listed are development kits. A little
farther down the page there is an option to _Download_J2SE_JRE_
whish is the runtime (JRE = Java Runtime Environment).

On the Sourceforge website for the database engine that is
integrated into OOo it says that it does not function well
with Java 1.5 (BTW Java 1.5 and Java 5.0 are the same thing)
so I suggest using Java 1.4.2.
