Hello,
I recently downloaded the Open Office 2.x that supports the 'BASE'
module which is appealing to a guy who works on databases...soooo I
gave it a try and it crashed the app everytime i started to use
BASE..'Reports'...seems the FORM portion of this app works fine.
During the import of ASCII Delimited data it puked and the 'colums'
were describe in some foreign language and the 'row' information was
foreign as well. One person suggested it was the version of Java that
I have on my laptop...which is a good place to start, but I've gotton
no response from anyone else on this list just a bunch of deleted and
non-read replys...................SO does anyone have a clue or a
direction you could point me to see what the problem mght be?...I am
asking before I check out the java suggestion?
I thank all of you in advance.
Regards,
Hello Michael,
I feel like you are just teasing me. You state that it was recommended
that the problem may be the Java version but you do not tell us which
version of Java you are using. If the Forms are working fine, then it is
probably not the Java version, especially if you can use the Form Wizard.
Also, Precisely which version of OOo did you use? Was it a development
version, or are you now using 2.0 RC2?
Also, you might have better luck with some of these questions on the
database list ([email protected]).
I have been finding and posting bug reports as I check out the database
functionality.
You state that things crashed during an Ascii import. Realize that I
have not tried this, but I have had very fast inspection of errors (and
fixing of errors) when I do the following:
* Isolate the problem
* Create a small set of data to demonstrate the problem
* A short series of steps to demonstrate the problem.
The problem can even be related to the Locale!
With my last bug report, I created a database and a macro that shows the
problem. Of course, one of my reports before that, I did something
wrong, it was a bit embarrasing....
Worst case, the simple steps help people on this list see exactly what
the problem is.
Hope this helps.
