Hi Fred,

I like a little more spacing too, especially with numbered lists. Here's how to do what you're asking about in an OpenOffice.org 2.0 RC.

If I'm understanding correctly what you want, here's what to do to get no indent on level 1 but to have a .5 indent on every other level. Start off the way you did. Select 1-10, specify Relative, and specify .5 for spacing to text. Also specify 0 for the indent. Then click on level 2 in the level list, hold down Shift and select level 10 in the list, and specify .5 for the indent.

The best way to save your list settings is to create your formatting in a style and then apply that style. Choose Format > Styles and Formatting, click the list styles icon at the top of the window that appears, right-click in the blank area of that window and choose New, and specify your settings in the appropriate tabs of that window. Click OK, then select the text in your document that you want that list formatting to apply to, and double-click the name of your new style.

In order to save that style, you can put that style in your default template, so the style will always be there when you choose File > New > Text Document. Copying a posts from others, here are two ways to do that:

Approach 1

 > For details on on how
 > to do this see the "More on Templates" section of the Advanced
 > Techniques chapter of either User Guide. Also check out the OOoAuthors
 > guides. All are available from
 > http://documentation.openoffice.org/manuals/

Approach 2
<>  > Open a new text document, set up that pageas preferred;
  > Go to File > Templates > Save;

 > Left click the pane with Default; then OK;

 > Go to File > Templates > Organize;

 > Dbl L click My Templates;

 > Highlight Default > right click > L click Set As Default;

 > Close.

Or just create a template (in the document where you created the style, choose File > Templates > Save and name the template something like MyListStyle) that contains that style. Then choose File > New > Templates and Documents whenever you want to access that template.

HTH,

Solveig

By default, OpenOffice.org produces bulleted or numbered lists with a 0.2" spacing between the bullet or number and the list item, with each level indented 0.2" from the base of 0". I like more separation, so I want 0.5" spacing. The problem is, when I go to the Position tab under Numbering and Bullets, select "1-10", check the 'Relative' box (so I can enter something into the Indent box), and enter 0.5", the base is also set to 0.5", which is not what I want... and there appears to be no way to set level 1 to 0" and have the other levels pull to the left automatically. Is there a better way to set this up than setting each level's indent manually? Also, having done this one way or another, how can I save it as the default setting so I don't have to do it again?
