I have an OO spreadsheet file. One copy of it is named Test.sxc and
another copy is named Test.sxc.zip which was created by adding the ZIP
extension to the Test.sxc file.
Both can be opened through the OO file open and are identical.
If I look at the Test.sxc.zip with WinZip I see a collection of XML
files.
My question is: Where can one find the Help info that suggests how to,
or why one would, place the ZIP extension on the *.sxc file? I did
searches in OO and on the OO web site. Nothing found.

By default, OOo files are stored in a compressed format (I do not
remember if you can turn this off, I assume perhaps not) using the zip
file format. Your document is really a ZIP file that contains other
files and directories. When I want to really see what is going on
inside, I will rename the file to contain the .zip extension and then
use a zip program to unzip the directories and files and take a look. In
a pinch, I have even done this, edited the XML files, and then rezipped
the entire thing. Consider this dangerous and assume that you will lose
data if you do this so always make a backup.
This is likely to be discussed somewhere along with the file formats.
