First, insert a footer (I assume you want the page number at the bottom of the page. ) Choose Insert > Footer > Default.
Then insert the page number. Scroll to the footer area at the bottom, click in it, and choose Insert > Fields > Page Number.
You can format the page number as you like by tabbing to move it to the center or right, apply fonts, etc.
