Hi Chad,
The download from Microsoft is not a stand-alone utility, but an add-on
for Microsoft Word. If the OP has Works, the only option is to save in
Word doc format. Without Works, he's beat.

Hello Lyle,
Thank you for your interest in OpenOffice.org.
OpenOffice.org cannot directly open native MS Works files. However, there is
hope. MS Works can save in the popular MS Office format, as well as the open
RTF (Rich Text Format) which OpenOffice.org can open easily. The recently
released (within 72 hours) 2.0 version of OOo has improved MSO format
support.
There is another option from having to open and resave each file
individually. I believe that Microsoft has on their Knowledge Base website,
a program or utility to convert a number of MSWorks files to MSO formats at
once. The program can be downloaded from this page of the Microsoft website

I hope this helps!

I am very interested in downloading OpenOffice, but I now use Microsoft
Works. I am an author and have all of my work stashed on Works. Before I
commit please advise if Works documents can be transferred.
Thank you....Lyle Everett Claypool
