Yes FC4 breaks OOo. At least it does on my system. I solved the problem
by downloading and installing the 2.0 release of OOo.
Probably I may find a way to convert EPS to PDF or I may just insert
PDFs to my TeX stuff, but when I export to PDF I end up with a page-size
PDF. So when I insert it to my TeX document, the whole page is inserted,
instead of only picture. In OOO 1.5 there were no such a problem...
I tried to select only objects to be exported, I choosen "selection" in
the PDF export menu - does not help :-(
Any suggestions what should I do?

Let us know if 2.0 solves your problem or not.
I've seen first hand some of the things the FC4 version of OOo cuts out,
(didn't notice the one you mentioned but I never tried that either) I
found it quite annoying. I highly recommend using the official
realeases from openoffice.org
