But it requires knowing in advance that I will be making changes that I want to save to the template--knowledge I often lack. The other method has worked for me up through 2RC1 and quit working in 2RC2. There is an issue in CALC for this problem, http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=55685, but not in WRITER.
