Never mind whether RPMs are bloody ;>)
I had some trouble installing on FC4 KDE:
x86 machine recently upgraded from FC3-4;
several OOo betas and 1.14 installed;
root access;
I read the setup pdf, and searched the knowledgebase.
I was unable to use the openoffice.org-2.0.0-3.1.2.src.rpm.
That is, as root, rpm -i and rpm -Uvh did *something* but nothing
appeared in /opt
(It wouldn't run as a user, returned a permissions error)
I WAS able to:
as root untar xvzf OOo_2.0.0_LinuxIntel_install.tar.gz
dive into the unpacked tarball to RPMS
rpm -Uvh rpm*
then
cd desktop-integration
rpm -Uvh openoffice.org-redhat-menus-2.0.0-3.noarch.rpm
This did not add OOo to my KDE menus, nor did it install soffice.bin in
the path. So I just made an icon and pointed to /opt/~OOo.../soffice.bin
It came up with aliased screen fonts so I found an instruction here
http://www.openoffice.org/FAQs/fontguide.html#5
That told me to do a replacement on Andale Sans UI ( you MUST enter the
bad font name manually) which fixed my screen.
spadmin did NOT work for me - I must be missing something because when
pointed to locations with fonts, it showed nothing in the add window.
HTH - I'd like to hear comments, I have users who will need to know the
right way.
