You cannot open it as a spreadsheet. However you can import the data. It is always better to keep a document that you want to edit in the original form and only export it to the other type of file when you are happy with what you have saved. To import the file in Calc do "Insert" -> "Link to Externaal Data" and in the dialog box put the URL for your file. You should then be able to get the table form your HTML file.
