I would say from your response that you cannot import XHTML into calc
except perhaps by cut and paste. Exporting a file does not guarantee
being able to import the file that was exported. I do hope you save the
spreadsheet in native format. 

Other than that I am at a loss as to what you can do if you do not have
the original sheet.
