What does it mean to "register" the new database?

I think what you want is in Help. Select Base in hte dropdown at the top
and the use Contents > Index > Search term > registering;databases
"Data from any database file <vnd.sun.star.help://shared/text/shared/explorer/database/dabadoc.xhp?Language=en-US&System=WIN&UseDB=no> can be registered to OpenOffice.org. To register means to tell OpenOffice.org where the data is located, how it is organized, how to get that data, and more. Once the database is registered, you can use the menu command *View - Data source* to access the data records from your text documents and spreadsheets. "

Thanks. I have a problem in thinking of the program being called by a domain name. Too bad you didn't just call it OpenOffice!

Or did I misunderstand, and registering the database tells everyone who uses the website about my data????

A final question: why would a person choose NOT to register a database?

Age is not a particularly interesting subject. Anyone can get old. All you have to do is live long enough.
