This sounds like the problem reported in issue 53184.  It is currently
unresolved but you can reference this issue to see what work has been
done.

I've also noticed a problem with opening files over any UNC path.  If I
use a 
Mapped drive in Windoze the file will open, but if I browse to the 
server\share (on any remote location NetWare or Windows) the file
rarely 
opens.
