I have had two problems.

The second is more of an issue right now, as it really interferes with the
reason for using OO to begin with.
I tried this morning to open the MS Access dabase that I do the most work
with, which is the main membership list for our church. It's not a
complicated database at this point in its development. There is only one
table, one form and a couple of queries and reports. Nothing complicated,
yet when I tried to open it, I got the following message: "Connection to
database could not be established. Connection to external data source could
not be established. Unknown error. Driver is probably defective."
Strange - I also work on a Church database, simple, one main & several
lookup tables, a couple of forms, lots of queries, some relational
tables. I copied the .mdb file to a safe place on a PII 400, 256 Meg
RAM, unpatched Win2k Pro and just opened it without any problem in OOo2.
I was amazed how easy it was. I did nothing about ODBC, but did
"register the data base" when asked. I wound up with a a .odb file in
the same location that is very small - just links into the .mdb file
with all the data. Editing affects the tables in the .mdb file - OOo2 is
just acting as a GUI. All tables are visible as tables in OOo2; all my
queries in Access are available & run as views in the OOo2 list of
tables. No forms came over & need to be built from scratch.
What version was your Acces database? Mine was an old Office 97 version.
Are you having user privilige problems? I was logged in as a user with
Admin rights.
While the writer and presentation componants seem to be in good working
order, it looks like there are still a few glitches in the database module.
Agreed - my mail "Database : unable to query on boolian fields" of 29
Oct is a pretty detailed example. I can work around it, but that is not
the point. I feel the need for a bug report ..... when I get the time to
learn how to do that.
Can you offer any ideas or recommendations?
Thanks,
Dave Roth
PS - I attempted to open another even smaller database - the attendance list
of this summer's vacation Bible school - fewer than 50 records in a flat
file database. I got a window with language information, and then it opened
a writer window with 3,000 pages of garbage in it.
I tried to import a csv format data file into a table and got thrown all
over the place. What format was your flat file?
