My 0.02 cents on this matter. IMHO, it is not spam if one makes a one time announcement in an appropriate forum regarding a product that may be of interest to many of it's readers.
I understand how one can get frustrated when your efforts and contributions to OOo seem to go unrewarded while others make money on "coattail" projects like distribution of CD's, documentation and training - but that is the nature of open source. If you can't take the heat, you need to get out of the kitchen. Personally, I'm not much of a team player - so I decided to go alone with my openofficetips site. I answer to no one - except folks with suggestions and feedback, and I hope I'm contributing in my own way to the community - which really ought to extend far beyond openoffice.org <http://openoffice.org> anyway. I don't make judgements regarding peoples contributions (or lack thereof) to the forum or openoffice.org <http://openoffice.org>. I only try to determine the knowledge level of someone before responding to them - or if they've ben obnoxious. . That's all that counts. Well that's it for me...
