OOo does this too out-of-the-box. However, I will guess that you have
disabled Tips in Tools > Options > OpenOffice.org > General I encourage
you to enable these again. For more info on this and other features see
http://documentation.openoffice.org/manuals/OOo2.x/user_guide2_draft.pdf
or some of the other manuals.
