I'm using P4 2.6Ghz, 512MB ram with winxp...  I duplicated your
spreadsheet (admittedly the formulas in each of the cells were
simplistic adds), but did not get the performance you mentioned.

Each of the filters (several columns were tried) the results were sub
second. I doubled the number of rows and the performance was still
comparable.

Not alot of info was available about the machine you used - so it
could be that. Additionally, you could try to 'repair' the OOo
installation to see if that improves things.

Certainly that level of performance is not standard.
