Correct, the squiggly red underlining flags words that OOo thinks are
mis-spelled. If you don't want them flagged in this manner, click on
the AutoSpellcheck tool, located in the standard toolbar, to turn it
off. (This is icon that has "ABC" underlined with a squiggly red line.)

Right click on the offending word and select spellcheck to enter the
spellcheck dialog.
