Back a few weeks ago, I installed OpenOffice 2.0 on my Mandrake 10.0, following the instructions on the Home Page.

Last night I was forced to remove Open Office 2, but I downloaded it again. Unfortunately, every time I try to follow the instructions on the web page, I get an unresolved dependencies message. Tthe Desktop integration needs core 01, which needs core 02, all the way to core 10, which needs core 01 again.

I even downloaded the program a second time, with the same result.

I have an old version of Open Office 1.1, which came with the Mandrake. Fortunately, I have gotten into the hapobit of saving all my files three times, .odt, .sxw, and .rtf, otherwise I wouldn't be able to do anything.

Does anyone have any suggestions? To reiterate, just to show that I did read the FM, I followed the instructions on the web-site for the opening of the program.

The biggest problem is that I'm fairly sure I've missed some little thing, but I haven't the faintest idea what.

Please compare the steps you took with the RPM installation instructions
in
http://documentation.openoffice.org/setup_guide2/2.x/en/SETUP_GUIDE.pdf
IIRC, these may help.

I followed the instructions at :

http://download.openoffice.org/2.0.0/instructions.html#linux

There, the command they used was :

execute rpm -Uvih *rpm.

I cut this and pasted it into the terminal, to prevent typing errors.

However, this morning I went to the link you suggested, and the command they suggest is rpm -Uvh *rpm.

First attempt got me this error: error: cannot open lock file ///var/lib/rpm/RPMLOCK in exclusive mode

On a hunch, I went to root and tried again. It went right to work and unpacked everything.

I have not yet had time to check it out to see if the program works, just thought I'd give this update.

As I keep saying, my business is writing, and I know little bits and pieces of Linux fundamentals, not enough to know why the "i" in there should prevent it from working. Near as I can make out the "i" stands for "install."
