Dear Andy,

Thank you for the detailed, and useful, information. I installed the X11 software and was able to download and use the 2.0 version. I'll be checking it out over the next few days.

With thanks to all who have put the time and work into developing some great software!

I downloaded both versions of Open Office: 1.1.2 and 2.0 and was able
to install neither. At least 1.1.2 went through the process (including
verification), but I was unable to locate it anywhere on my computer.
I'm running Mac 10.3.9, 600 MHz Power PC G3 on an iBook with 640 MB
SDRAM.

Neither program requested disc 3 to complete.

I wasn't even able to open or install 2.0.

The program looks great, and i'd like to use it, what do I need to do
to get it to install?

Hi Pam,
As you are not subscribed you may not have seen that:

First question -- do you have Apple's X11 software installed, neither
version of Open Office.org will run without it.

If you do not, my first suggestion would be that you head for
www.neooffice.org and download the "macintoshed" version of the
program, this will install without X11 and works much more like a Mac
program.

If you really need version 2.0 them either use your install CD's/DVD
to do a custom install and add X11 to your system, or download X11
from Apple's web site. Then retry your installation -- the 2.0
install is a smoother process than the 1.1.xx versions.

When you download the file and double click it, it will create a .dmg
file -- double click the .dmg file and a disk icon will appear on
your desktop, double click the disk icon and then either double click
the installer (version 1.1.xxx) or drag the program to your hard
drive (neo office and 2.0).

I would make sure that you install (any version) in your Applications
folder as that will make it easy to find.

If you get stuck you are welcome to give me a call --

Thanks

Andy
