WinXP Home, OO 2, Athlon 1.7GHz, Brother HL-1440
For printing mail merge documents, I am used to merge routines merging
to an intermediate file before printing. That file can then be
manipulated as needed if there are last minute changes (like correcting
for the hidden paragraph problem I'm having!). I've also used this
option with other software to force the printer to do manual duplex
printing (double-sided).
OO 2 doesn't do this. I have the option to print to file, but OO then
writes a separate file for each data record. This is cumbersome at best
if I then have to print each file manually. Also, if I have one or two
records to edit, there's no simple way of knowing which file is the one
needing editing, so I have to open many files to try to figure out which
one to edit.
Alternatively, assuming I don't need to edit individual documents, I can
print directly, but when I do so, I can't manual duplex because I don't
get either an option to print only odd or even pages, nor do I get the
printer's driver dialog in which I could set the print request to manual
duplexing. I tried adjusting the printer settings (File->Printer
Settings...) to manual duplex, which I was able to do, but that print
job hangs in the printer and never get's done. I should get a dialog
from the printer telling me to insert paper for printing side 2, then
when that's done, another to insert paper for printing side 1.
I don't know how to troubleshoot why this document hangs and doesn't
print, so I don't really know what's wrong with this approach, but it
doesn't work.
Any words of wisdom on how to print double sided from a mail merge form
letter? BTW, it's a 2 page letter.
Thanks,
Carl
